Voto Latino lit up the red carpet Wednesday night with the sound of motorcycles gunning in the background. Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara, Fat Joe and Wilmer Valderrama stopped and talked to the crowd and posed for pictures on their way into the club.

Jennifer Lopez and celeb producer, manager Benny Medina bypassed the red carpet and were spotted sitting on a couch inside. Rumors were swirling that Leonardo DiCaprio would soon show.

Rapper Fat Joe and actor Wilmer Valderrama, both looking sharp, warmed up the red-carpet crowd for Voto Latino's superstar guest, Jennifer Lopez, Wednesday evening. Now a honey blond, J.Lo was wearing a lavender cocktail dress - short and strappy. She flirted with the camera and headed inside Vinyl nightclub for the Latino voter-registration-drive party.

Dawson is the co-founder of Voto Latino, a four-year-old organization that's making inroads with registering and informing Latino voters.

JLO's Blog: Getting it right

Most people hear "triathlon" and think Ironman—a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile marathon. "That's for crazy people!" jokes Jennifer Lopez, who's training for her first triathlon, the Nautica Malibu Triathlon's classic distance (a half-mile swim, 18-mile bike and 4-mile run), to raise money and awareness for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

Races like the Malibu tri and shorter, sprint-distance events are a challenging and fun way to get in shape, and you never get bored, says Lucy Danziger, SELF's editor-in-chief and a huge cheerleader for the sport, who will be racing with Jennifer. "If you can bike, run and swim, each separately, you can do it," Lucy says. We checked in with Gunnar Peterson, Jennifer's trainer, to find out more about her training.

"The goal is to be comfortable throughout the event. Jennifer should be able to go out to dinner afterward, not check into the ER. We started by focusing on each of the three events individually to lay a strong foundation. Then we began working on the transitions. You don't need to do the whole event during training, but you try to simulate the race conditions—biking, then immediately running. Or by doing a mini-tri—all three events at shorter distances.

"You've got to get used to the race conditions. It's one thing to swim in a pool that is temperature controlled and another to get into the freezing Pacific with 3,000 other athletes. Other than the usual jitters, nervousness and having lots of people around, there shouldn't be new demands on the body. So we get out on the bike path and swim in the ocean. That way, when she's in the water on race day, she's thinking, 'Yup, I know what this feels like. I got this.' Then on the bike, 'Yup, I'm comfortable. I know this.' It shouldn't be, 'Holy s---! This water is cold! Those waves are crazy! These hills are steep!'"

"Jennifer knows what she has to do and gets it done. She has a great perspective on workouts and what she derives from them. It's not just about the exercise. Your workout will be better if you realize that by doing it, everything else you do will be a little better, too. You're better at work and make fewer mistakes. You feel better and so are a nicer person."

Keep checking back to read more about Jennifer's triathlon training progress and charity initiatives.

Braid Flower

I came across a blog a couple of days ago where the woman made a comment in regards to my blog..."she probably thinks that she thought of these hairstyles herself."

So let me set the record straight on that. I don't think I thought of these myself. I watched my mom do my little sisters hair. She had AMAZING ringlets that her sweet daughter inherited. I had stick-straight hair and very little of it so I was always coveting those curls. I watched her braid it, fish-tail it, etc. I started doing little girls hair when I was about 9 years old and I started babysitting for a hairdresser. I was able to do her three daughters hair. She taught me a lot. I learned from her. I learn from watching movies, especially teeny-bopper shows. I see hairstyles in parks and libraries and my daughters schools and I emulate them. I learn from friends, neighbors and family members. Some times I will think I have thought of something myself and I see it being done already. It is hair. Saying I thought of it first is like saying there is only one great chocolate chip cookie recipe. It just isn't possible.

So today, I will show you one that I used from another blog. First I saw THIS post by Jenn, who has become a wonderful friend, and I loved how she did the loops. Then I saw THIS post and loved the braids. So I combined the all up into a ponytail and then did the braid flower. See...not original. But it fulfills the purpose of this blog...and what I assume is the purpose for all of the other hair blogs that are surfacing...to share ideas.

Basic Instructions:

Pull the hair into a tight ponytail

Using pomade, braid the hair into five equal sized braids...make sure to end the braids the same distance down

Pull the braid into a loop and push the ends of the braid through the elastic...as shown HERE

Repeat with each of the braids.

When I had them pulled through, I used my flat iron and curled the ends and then I used a pliable putty (by Garnier of course) and pieced them out.
