Squirrels, Tags and Kpop :)

To give you a small update on my life: oh man non-blog life has been busy -_-;;;   I've been getting home at 9pm (not including the commute :P *sigh*), became addicted to eating Trolli Sour Gummy Worms, and been taking LOTS of pics!  My heart quails at the idea of sorting through all of them actually...  But here's a little something in the meantime ^_^

This little charmer was sunbathing on our deck and I was lucky to get a clip of him.  Squirrels are so cute ^_^ I have a weakness for little rodents (mice, hamsters, chipmunks....some rats), a love only rivaled by my love for cats.  I'd love to raise a cat and mouse as friends!   I've heard it can be done but I admit I'll always be worried to come home one day and find a mouse carcass :(   I like dogs too (spitz particularly) but even in my imagination a spitz type dog + a cat + a mouse are not going to be a trio for long :(

A couple weeks back, Suzy kindly tagged me for a What's on My Nightstand tag...but be prepared to be disappointed:

I love that that frame ^_^  Anyway, that is a pic of me and my bro during the Blizzard of 1996 (East Coast, USA).  Virginia doesn't get much snow in general, so to get a legit BLIZZARD was nothing short of traumatic (aka fun for kids :) ).  Virginians are the type to stock up if you get 3 inches of snow....not exactly the hardy type. Oh man, I remember that blizzard.  No school for WEEKS, piles of snow up to my chest (literally)....it was great!  My brother super cute back then - he looks like a wee elf with his purple hood! As for me....there I am...looking suspiciously manly *sigh*

Anyway, yeahhhhh I don't keep makeup in my room. I'm hardly ever in my bedroom really, I just go in there to sleep ^^  Here's what I keep next to my closet though:

There are built-in bookshelves by my closet and that's where I keep the things that would normally go on a nightstand I suppose~  This is non-makeup stuff I use everyday:

1.) The Limited coupon + receipt - oh gosh I've been clothes shopping a lot lately.  Right now The Limited and Banana Republic have been my drugs of choice~

2.) Julu Jewelry earrings :} They are little dangle-y balls of pink and opal bi-cones.

3.) My glasses - If you are curious about how I look in my new glasses - you can also go here.   Fyi, I talk like I write aka A LOT~   So feel free to pop me on mute...except for the end!! Aziatix *heart* there's nothing like a little fan-love to bring people together right ;)?

4.) Watch from Walmart.  It was $10, I've been using it for 2-3 years and still works like a charm~ I've love to get a watch with a white leather band though :D

5.) Versace Bright Crystal - my "signature" scent of choice ahahah It's the only perfume I've worn regularly.  It has a nice clean scent, give it a whiff when you're at the mall :)

6.) And my ring!

This is a new acquisition for me.  I'm not a big ring wearer but this one I adore.  I got it from Kohl's while they were having this massive 60% off all Jewelry sale.  They had lots of pretty rings that were "open" and integrated into the design, but this was my favorite.  In general, Kohl's had a great selection of jewelry that I'd recommend taking a peek at if you're looking for some inexpensive high-quality pieces.  This ring is sterling silver and was $18.  I'm not particularly fond of sterling silver because it tarnishes but since I wear it daily, the tarnish doesn't have time to build up ^_^

I shall tag: Sincerely Mimi,  Beauty & Aikido, Lioness in Tokyo (I love expat blogs! And this is one of a chick in Tokyo.  She also has a beauty blog.), Hello qts, Love Tiffo, What iLike, Delyteful Speaks, Vanilla Sencha, Sweet Candy72, A Cosmetic Affair

Suzy (Dottilicious on YT) is cute as a button btw :D she's a relatively new discovery for me and she has that really lovely accent and sweet attitude.  I've pretty much dropped dead on the YT front because I just can't juggle a blog and channel at the moment but I watch the vids she posts on her blog. She's into Asian brands, which is obviously straight up my alley :)

Speaking of, I love the stuff on Gmarket but ordering from that site has been a PAIN for me (aka I never succeeded). I am not sure why logging in and placing an order properly has been so IMPOSSIBLE...it just keeps saying my login is invalid etc etc.  I think it's my laptop honestly but it's such a hassle I've given up.   The horror stories I've heard about Gmarket communication pains me too - I hate bad customer service and when I'm mad, the only Korean I'm typing are cuss words -__- If anyone has a similar issue and has fixed it - let me know~

P.S. Suzy, I swear I'm doing the other tag video....but curse it I have the memory of a goldfish and keep forgetting ><

On another topic, I don't watch music shows very often anymore but here's a couple songs I've been really liking -

Lim Jeong Hee - Golden Lady

This is definitely my favorite song of the month! Such a feel good, girl power song ^_^ Love the vocals, the beat, and message.  She actually debuted in 2005, but I read that she was more focused on street performing rather than music shows, which says a lot about her natural talent and abilities as a musician I think :)  Also features G.NA (why must the 'i' be a period? *sigh*) who has a catchy song for herself that I like a lot, I'll Back Off So Yo Can Live Well.

Baek Ji Young - Average

I really like the lyrics of the song.   The music video is rather boring (lots of running :\) but there is sexy Oh Ji Ho (Chuno), so yeah~   I still sort of miss her Sad Salsa days but her ballads are always solid and her vocals are great.  The songwriter for this song is the same as LJH's Golden Lady I believe (somebody's raking in the dough lately I bet ^_~)

Jay Park - Tonight

He does a lot of showing off of his dancing skills, it's rather gratuitous...but that aside this is just such feel good, happy song!  I still have my suspicions about his departure (I'm in the minority of fans that think he did something), but his career has moved nowhere but up since then and I think he's better off solo anyway.  He always sort of outshone everyone else in 2PM; 2PM definitely lost a chunk of talent without him for sure :\   Anyway, the MV is actually fun to watch and JP still walks that fine line between cute and manly like a pro :D He looks like a guy who'd be fun to be buddies with ^_^  He's got a lot of expression...I guess that's what makes him such a good performer :} I like this song a lot better than Abandoned for some reason; the hook is catchier I think.

MissA - Love Alone

awww I miss MissA already! They're definitely one of my favorite groups :) This whole song's sung in English and it's not bad at all~ I think this song was for Kim Yuna's "Ice Show." I was surprised how concise the pronunciation was, but since JYP himself is fluent I guess I shouldn't have been surprised :)

2NE1 - Lonely

Oh man, if I had a 2nd favorite song at the moment it'd be this one.  Promotions have been pretty low key but whatever, it's a good song.  This is how I like 2NE1, subtle, stylish, and focused on their vocals.  Their hook is so damn catchy too~  Everyone's looking great (except for Dara's awful hair in the first half, though god knows she could rock a paper bag if she wanted too).  Bom is still looking hot in those one pieces and if I adored Minzy and CL more, I'd probably be....creepier ^^;;

FT Island - Hello Hello

The subber did a fantastic job explaining the nuances of the word "annyeong" (the title of the song) so I'll just paste it here:
As you can get from the lyrics, the song is about the two opposite meanings of the word "annyeong", which means both hello and goodbye in informal speech. Therefore I couldn't really translate the word as either "hello" or "goodbye" because it was referring to the word itself, and not to a specific meaning, so if I had translated it, the song would lose most of its essence. That's why I just left it as it is.
Even with the upbeat air, this is a pretty sad song and MV :( but I love the dichotomy of hello/goodbye and the upbeat air/sad lyrics...  It reminds me a bit of CN Blue's I'm A Loner with fun little repeating catch phrases but that's no surprise since CN Blue said they were much inspired by FT Island :D

So yep, that's all!  Have a great weekend everyone!

MBD correction + fun tags + movie trailers!

I'm slowly slogging through my face mask reviews but I have a lot on my mind these days so I just felt doing something more *lighthearted* :)

Speaking of face masks, I made a mistake on my MBD Blooming of Beauty Overview post, so I've updated that.  Basically, there are actually 9 masks in the series, not 6 >_>  The three masks I forgot to list are awfully expensive online because they're "rarer" for some reason - ugh... So I doubt I'll get to ever try them but I did want to let you guys know the proper information.  MBD has also just released ANOTHER (arghhhh!!) mask series called Tea Time this month, which Elisa posted about.  They sound effing delicious and now I want to try those too -_- However, I'm on a strict mask ban for the next 2-3 months though while I use the ones I have.  Also if I keep buying more sheet masks I'll never finish my sheet mask compilation video -_-

Nonetheless, I did find some places that are selling these rare MBD masks.  They're awfully expensive but these are literally the only 2 places that ship to the US that I've found so far.  So yeah...for people who can't resist:
  • Buying in Taiwan Ebay Store: Selling the three Blooming of Beauty masks that aren't on BonjourHK website for $13/box.  Despite the fact this is literally 2x more expensive than what BonjourHK sells the Blooming of Beuty masks for ($7.60/box), this is the cheapest place I've found that ships to the US where you can try the Moroccan Rose, Pink Rockrose, and Mediterranean Orange Blossom masks.
  • Zizizaza Ebay Store: Selling not just the Tea Time series ($17.25) but also the adorable MBD Hello Kitty Honey Milk and Strawberry Milk masks ($17.25).  The HK masks are 10/box so that's not as bad as the Tea Time series, which come 5/box.
Anyway,  I was pretty excited to have a chance to do the Handwriting Tag that's been going around Blogger lately :D Thank you Eve (Bella Chic) and Sue Lynn (Where I Can Be Deeply Superficial) for tagging me.
Get a piece of paper and write the answers to the following questions:
1. What's your name/your blogger name?
2. What's your blog's name/URL?
3. Write "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
4. Favorite quote?
5. Your Favorite song?
6. Your favorite band/singers?
7. Anything else you want to say?
8. Tag three to five other people.

Usually I write in a crash of cursive and print that is barely legible. This is my neat, tidy, "I'm gonna fool people into thinking I have nice handwriting" handwriting ;)

People I want to see handwritings of (b/c I'm a creeper ;) ):

I don't have the energy to tag more people but anyone willing to do this tag (especially via video!) be my guest :D yuuuup also Elisa tagged me for a pretty cool Childhood Pictures tag, which I'm looking forward to doing.  I love digging up old pictures but I am the epitome of someone who went through an ugly duckling phase so hmm...retinal scarring anyone ;)?  Now onto the second half of this post...

...I wanted to post some intriguing movie trailers that have caught my eyes in the past few weeks.  I'm one of those lazy bums who'd rather read recaps than watch a movie in a theater ^^ but I do love watching trailers. Does that even qualify as a hobby xD?

Award-winning director Joe Wright creates a boldly original suspense thriller with HANNA, starring Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Atonement) in the title role. Raised by her father (Eric Bana of Star Trek), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland, Hanna's upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.
Hanna - I love movies about emo-bad-ass-chicks! The fact that this girl a young 'un with a traumatic past sounds somewhat stereotypical but the trailer reminds me a lot of the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, which is good in my book.  That girl's cute as a button too, killer instinct and all.  I can totally see her being the next big Hollywood starlet, she has the intense look about her~  I have a feeling she's going to find out her target (Cate Blanchett) is her mom or something and there is some genetic "defect" that gives her amazing speed/intelligence, something like that.  Anyway, Eric Bana is smoking up the screen too *sigh* he's so fine ^^ so this is a movie I'm considering actually seeing on movie screen instead of reading the synopsis ehehe~

WHEN HARRY TRIES TO MARRY is a cross-cultural romantic comedy about a young Indian-born bachelor who lives in New York City. Harry's handsome and charming, but he's cynical about love. He's never really gotten over his parents' divorce -- they were a modern Indian couple who married for love and it didn't last. So to improve his odds of living "happily ever after," Harry decides to have an arranged marriage, and asks his uncle back home in India to assist him in arranging the introduction to an appropriate Indian woman. To the dismay of his parents and friends, Harry finds the perfect girl and embarks on a long-distance courtship. But unexpectedly, Harry's friendship with Theresa, a fun and sexy American student, becomes confusing, appealing -- and maybe a little bit romantic. Once Harry, his friends and the entire wedding party converge in India, Harry's plan to avoid romantic risk becomes a recipe for chaos. Can anyone protect themselves from a broken heart by leaving the passion out of marriage? And, when all is said and done, does Harry really want to?
When Harry Tries to Marry - The title reminds of "When Harry Met Sally" (I thought it was a sequel at first). In any case, the recent influx of Bollywood trailers on Apple is very intriguing!  This movie caught my eye because it has a k-drama flair with that unmistakable Bollywood signature to it.  Don't get me wrong - it's pretty obvious this won't be winning any Oscars xD but come on, who doesn't love BANGHRA ^^!? This trailer really drives home the reason why the Hallyu Wave reportedly even reached India - I see a lot of "East Asian" sensibilities in this trailer that I think K-poppers can relate to. What I particularly like about this trailer/storyline is that it has that uniquely Indian twist of arranged marriages.  We don't get that set-up in K-flicks/dramas (at least not quite so bluntly though Koreans do have a love of "dating contract" sort of things :P).  Also the premise of the dude "going traditional" in a modern world instead of "breaking free from tradition" is rather fresh if you think about it.  This approach is very relevant to not just Indians of this generation, but also all Asians.  Personally, I see so many second generation Asians "looking for their culture" after years of happily being a "Twinkie." I also like how this movie shows modern Indian culture as it exists today (aka the parents are divorced, they live in America, they're happily integrated in American society) and come on, the scenes in India look gorgeous.

Plus that dude (Rahul Rai) is kinda cute ;)  He doesn't seem to be a "good" actor per se (I say this as someone who judged only from the trailer) but there is something quite quirky and charming about him.  Bollywood is still rough around the edges when it comes to producing slick, mass-audience films that Hollywood has down to a fine art, but I already know Bollywood is going to invading Hollywood in the next decade or so and this promises to be a taste of how they might do modern rom-coms. Let's face it, we all know how the movie is going to end and the acting already looks a little awkward but it looks like an entertaining chick flick to me :D!

Inspired by the bestselling novel SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN by Lisa See, the film is a timeless portrait of female friendship. In 19th-century China, seven-year-old girls Snow Flower and Lily are matched as laotong - or "old sames" - bound together for eternity. Isolated by their families, they furtively communicate by taking turns writing in a secret language, nu shu, between the folds of a white silk fan. In a parallel story in present day Shanghai, the laotong's descendants, Nina and Sophia, struggle to maintain the intimacy of their own childhood friendship in the face of demanding careers, complicated love lives, and a relentlessly evolving Shanghai. Drawing on the lessons of the past, the two modern women must understand the story of their ancestral connection, hidden from them in the folds of the antique white silk fan, or risk losing one another forever. What unfolds are two stories, generations apart, but everlasting in their universal notion of love, hope and friendship.
Snow Flower & the Secret Fan - I read the book a couple years ago and I remember thinking of it as a quieter, rawer version of The Joy Luck Club, but I re-read the book again recently and it has a complexity to it I don't remember the first time around.  I definitely recommend the book, especially for people who've enjoyed "The Joy Luck Club" and "Memoirs of a Geisha."  Coincidentally, the director of this movie also directed "The Joy Luck Club" film version.   Interestingly, I get a distinct "Memoirs of a Geisha" film vibe from this movie instead, it has that shiny, expensive look to it.  I'm not sure how I feel about that but I will say I am very excited to see how the book plays out as a film.

Even more interestingly, Jun Ji Hyun (Gianna Jun, she of "My Sassy Girl" fame), will be playing the role of Lily, a very tragic figure in the book.  JJH is one of the few A-list K-actresses who actually seems serious about making it in Hollywood. Her first Hollywood attempt was not good; Blood: The Last Vampire bombed and was critically derided.  Oddly enough, her acting was praised and she came out of the mess pretty much unscathed since most of the blame was laid on the director.   In any case, "Snow Flower" promises to be a much better vehicle for her - it has that Asian exotica that America is so fond of and she's in the hands of a much better director.   I'm curious to see how she'll do speaking both English and Chinese though, she doesn't speak either if I'm not mistaken.  "Lily" is a pretty dynamic character so if she does well in this film I can totally see her breaking into Hollywood. As for first impressions, I am pleased to see that she is looking very raw and "into the role." She certainly hasn't lost her round cheeks and while they make her seem a tad chubby, she looks very charming and somehow suited to the role of the emotional, stubborn Lily.

Li BingBing plays Snow Flower and she looks gorgeous!  So polished and sophisticated, a great contrast to fierce Lily, who was born poor.  Again, I am curious to see how her character plays out on screen.  There are so many intense, tragic scenes in the book that would test even seasoned actresses - but I have very high hopes! Maybe we're looking at two new Hollywood stars ^_^ Hugh Jackman is in this movie too so I am seeing at least a decent audience draw :) Fingers crossed!

Spreadin' the Love. Late.

Craaaaaaapppp I had this vision of posting this on Valentine's Day to "spread the love" so to speak, but true to my procrastinating ways - IT'S LATE xD  In any case, what better way to spread the love in the blogosphere than AWARD TAGS wheeee~  I haven't been commenting on other blogs lately (busy :( ) but once February is over...more blogstalking!

I Love Your Blog Tag
Tagged by Bella Chic :D She seems to have a very similar skin type to me so I stalk her constantly when I'm debating over what upper end brands/Japanese brands to buy.  I was pretty excited to do this tag, especially since it's a bit different from the others :}

1. Why did you create this blog?
I'm not really sure.  It was an intersection of a growing interest in makeup/skincare, wanting to share tidbits of info on lesser reviewed products, and an overgrown desire to just jump into the blogging world :}

2. What kind of blogs do you follow?
Mostly makeup review blogs.  A small selection of fashion and Korean culture/ex-pat blogs.

3. Favorite makeup brand?
Hard one!  I can't pick just one so I'll just list all of them ^_^ Urban Decay, Boscia, Skinfood, My Beauty Diary, and Benefit.  Maybelline is inching its way on this list too.

4. Favorite clothing brand?
Walmart ahah but seriously, all my "staple" items like tank tops, long sleeves tops, and sweaters come from there xD  On the other hand, I'd have to say Ann Taylor with Banana Republic being a close second.

5. Your indispensable makeup product?
Skinfood Mushroom BBcream. After it oxidizes, Shade 1 is my perfect match.

6. Your favorite color?
Green. In case you haven't noticed ^^

7. Your perfume?
Versace Bright Crystal: clean, sophisticated, and mixes well with my natural body scent.

8. Your favorite film?
ahhhhh another hard one!  Ocean's 11 is what comes to mind first.

9. What country would you like to visit and why?
Oh lord, this one's so hard.  I want to travel the world eventually, but Italy would be fantastic place to start.

10. Make up the last question and answer. What book are you reading right now?  Malcolm Gladwell's What the Dog Saw.  I love his crisp writing style - I think my favorite articles so far has been John Rock's Error and The Talent Myth (and god knows it makes me feel better ^_~).  I can't wait till his next book!

Tagging: Mara (He Calls Me Mara), Siwing (Life's A Beach~), Mookxi, Ssushoo, Jessica (Bubbles & Beauty), Nic Nic (Bang Bang She Shoots), Rinny (Rinny's Beauty Diary), Joyce (Happy Cloud Moments), Yumiko (ILOVEYESTERDAY), Stephanie (Beauty & Gardens), Julie (PDXBeautiful), Jennifer (Rainy Days & Lattes), Sisi (Sisi Sparkles), Elisa (Memorable Days), Sue Lynn (Where I Can Be Deeply Superficial), Lisa (HQCD), Msodapop, Winnie (Winniewingyi), Georgina (Coffretgorge), Ashura (Clover Beauty Inn)

I have to admit, I was rather surprised to get this since I'm about as stylish as...my 80 year old History professor (aka NOT).  But I won't look the gift horse in the mouth xD  So thank you Sisi Sparkles, who is the drugstore sale masta' :}

  • Best smoothie I've ever tasted: Blueberry smoothie in some Philadelphia airport.  Still searching for a smoothie to top that.

7 Beauty Characteristics
I was actually tagged for this by two peeps: Yumiko and Rinny.   Yumiko is a Nana-doppelganger I swear and has naturally gray eyes I covet (and feebly seek to emulate via circle lens >_>).  She also fangirls over kdramas and it's kinda cute xD  Rinny has a well-rounded blog covering the kind of makeup I'm interested in and petite fashion (tho the latter is something I am rather the opposite of xD).  She has a way of reviewing the exact type of makeup I'm interested in.  It's crazy because she's actually one of the first bloggers that popped out to me many months ago before I even had a blog ^^ So...7 things I like about myself:

1. Hair: I will never go bald. As uncooperative as it is, I have a lot of it and it has a lot of natural volume.

2. Brows: They're naturally full (and bushy without plucking). Never needed to bother about filling in brows or such very much.

3. Eyelashes: Pretty long though it wouldn't kill them to be thicker ;)  Overall, I am content.

4. Legs: I like 'em. Not too short or long and pretty slim.

5. Feet: I think having small feet make me clumsy since they're disproportionate to my height :\ But I usually get the shoes I want since 5.5 is rarely out ^^ and they feed my illusions of being some kind of Cinderella.

6. "Witty" conversationalist: I'm reasonably sure I cross the line between chatty and chatterbox too often but I think (and hope) that it makes me fun to be around ^^  And I think being fun to be around is a beautiful characteristic mirite ^^;;?

7. Child at heart: Or immature. I reckon I'm more the latter, but "child-at-heart" sounds so much more palatable to my deluded ego ;)

Everybody do this ^_^! Cause there's something beautiful about everyone yup :D

Lunar New Year + Free Shipping @ The Body Shop!

Tis Lunar New Year today :D! My mom made a little pot of rice cake soup (ë–¡êµ/tteokguk) ^_^ so we'll probably eat that tonight~  We don't do any of the bowing/dressing up in hanboks (I've had enough of that through jesa anyway), but I love tteokguk (especially with dumplings/mandoo :D).

For a little Lunar New Year trivia, here are some fun (and short) posts:
- Why Koreans call Lunar New Year gujeong/구́ •/"old new year" via Ask a Korean

Nothing like spending a leisurely Sunday eating sweets, watching My Fair Wedding reruns, and surfing the internet.  Love it ^_^

Let me introduce you to one of the most interesting candy I've eaten in awhile - Puccho Kajitsu King candy.  The bag makes me chuckle ^^ It's pretty off the wall even considering the Asian love of kooky packaging~

It has real chunks of dried strawberry and pineapple in it and is made by the same company who makes Hi-Chew, so the white part has a similar (if not identical) flavor and consistency.

I really dig how they used real bits of fruit in the candy, which you can really taste since the white part doesn't really taste like much - it tastes (and looks) exactly the same as the white coating on the Hi-chew candies.  There is a definite pineapple flavor, more than strawberry, which is understandable since it's naturally a stronger flavor. Since there's fruit the texture of the candy is pretty odd...dried fruit + chewy candy but it's not unpleasant.

This is definitely one of the more unique candies I've ever eaten and it's my brother's favorite Asian candy - and that's saying something since he always tries every piece of candy I buy (usually behind my back -____-).  ahhah and it is certainly a must try :}

Otona no topo is a kind of bastardized Pocky ^_^ all the coating is on the inside~

Each box came with two packets :} The hollow tubes are coated on the inside with a (really) sweet creme brulee flavored cream, but it lacked the subtly of real creme brulee so I actually didn't like this too much :\  The cracker part was oddly...salty?  and that made the cream even sweeter.  I prefer the "real" Pocky ^_^  You won't be missing out on much if you don't try this I think.

Also, this is much belated post but Elisa of Memorable Days was kind enough to tag me for this awhile back :)

I tried valiantly to not tag people who have been tagged before by me so here goes to my more recent discoveries (or those I hadn't gotten to tagging till now) who have impressed me with their well-rounded posts and lovely personalities:

1. Dina (XYYan)
2. Bubbles & Beauty
3. Slowbro's Dreams
4. patikym
5. Bibi
6. Silky Bow
7. Beauty & Gardens
8. Rinny's Beauty Diary
9. The Little Dust Princess
10. The Pioneer Woman - this isn't a "beauty" blog but who doesn't know this lady?!   She takes lovely landscape and food photos for one thing and just about the only person I can think of who talks so much about cows xD   She's really catapulted to fame via her blog - she's been on Food Network, published a cook book, is writing another book (a love story) and apparently it's being made into a movie with Reese Witherspoon in it O_O  And her photographs...*_*!
11. Musings of an Offbeat Biped
12. eyeseeyouuu - circle lens and her pencil sketches O_O
13. Cosmeddicted
14. BethLovesApple
15. Buhay sa Korea - Filipino living in Seoul.  One of the few strictly personal blogs I read ^_^

FYI: I tagged a lot of people in previous award tags but I'm really bad with going around and 'alerting' people ^_^ So, please - if you have time, please mosey on over through my old award tags cuz I prolly tagged you and didn't tell you :P

I hope everyone's having a wonderful weekend!

2011 New Year Resolutions + TAG: Ups & Downs of 2010

H A P P Y  N E W  Y E A R !

Another day, another year.  I'm not going to lie, 2010 has been a long one for me and  I'm very glad it's over.  However, at the same time this year has taught me a lot of things...the importance of having holding onto your integrity even when the going gets tough, of growing up, of counting the blessings that I have, and how even in troubled times there is always something to smile about.  *insert cheesy music*  Nevertheless, I hope 2011 will be the beginning of better things and I'm ready to just dive on in~  But if I want things to get better, I need to start off on the right foot :) So here we go!

The Notoriously Hard-to-Keep New Years Goals List
1.) Procrastination! When something need to be done, do it right away!
2.) Keep an updated address book.
3.) Sleep by midnight, get a full 8 hours. (tho I'm having doubts about this one already...)
4.) Keep up with this blog, strive to write more interesting posts and better reviews.
5.) Improve videos, make them more fun to watch, be creative...and start a vlog channel xD
6.) Take care of my health.  Eat more veggies and try to cut back on sweets (...though my blog indicates this may not happen ^_~).  Eat vitamin pills everyday (already doing this :D!).  Overall, adapt a more balanced diet.
7.) Master writing in Korean.
8.) Master speaking in Spanish and increase vocabulary.
9.) Make nonprofit work and volunteering an integral part of my life.
10.) Drink more water!  I hate drinking fluids (weird I know)...the need to pee just gets annoying :\ nic nic knows what I'm talking about ^_^. Yet when I do drink water I can really tell a difference in my skin....

And to everyone out there who takes the time to read this blog, you guys have brought me a lot of happiness in what has overall been a rough year.   I read every comment and always think how lucky I am to have this opportunity to share this small piece of myself with all of you :)

I pretty much stole this banner from Elisa ^^ Sorry!

I was so excited to do this tag since it's not strictly beauty related and just a great way to quickly hit all the high and low points of 2010.  Elisa from Memorable Days tagged me for this puppy (thank you!) and I'm glad I got it up just in time for New Years!

Ups of 2010
1.) This blog yo.  I've just learned so much from the whole experience... how to edit videos, improve speaking on the spur of the moment, how to put on makeup (properly), find my way around the blogosphere, getting to know a lot of great people....:)
2.) Graduating! No more exams!
3.) Hopping around Korea for a glorious summer.  I love traveling, though I don't get to do so as much as I would like.  It was wonderful seeing Korea for the first time (well, I was there when I was 6 but that doesn't count since I don't remember a thing).
4.) Being able to come home to my family and not having to leave again for school ehhe ^^

Downs of 2010
1.) Health/allergies.  Health-wise, this year has been a disaster for me.  On the surface, a lot of people have complimented me on "losing weight" but I only look smaller and am lighter because I lost a lot of muscle mass and ate very poorly.  I did not eat right during my last year in school, so I was sick quite often and my immune system suffered.  I developed several severe allergic reactions all this year...twice on my face and twice from food. I'm positive that I've become so sensitive internally because I haven't been caring for my body as I should have been.   I've been healthy and fit all my life (thanks to swimming), but last year without exercise, crazy sleep habits, stress, and a total aversion to cooking unless I was about to starve, I ruined the good health I've been lucky to have for so long.
2.) Being separated from many of my close friends. I miss them.
3.) And just a lot of little things that don't need to be rehashed cuz - it's a new year!

Technically, I should only tag 5 people but this is such a good tag...seriously....so if this strikes your fancy, definitely do it.  Tho there are a couple of peeps I INSIST upon doing this tag and you know who you are ^_~

2011, here I come....
I wish everyone all the best~
Here's to hopes, dreams and a beautiful future!

On Korea + Allergy Update + Awards + Macaron Lovin'

UPDATE @ 5:40PM:
I know this post is already a mishmash of many things but for those who aren't aware:
On the 23rd, North Korea fired onto Yeonpyeong Island, located just south of the maritime border with a civilian population of about 1,600 and a military presence of 1,000. Two South Korean marines were killed, while 16 soldiers and 3 civilians were injured. This act of aggression comes eight months after the sinking of the South Korean Cheonan ship that killed 46 sailors. Read more in the following articles (in English) from Joongang Daily, Reuters, and New York Times. - Dramabeans
Especially nowadays, people are becoming more aware of South Korea through Kpop, k-dramas and movies but the fact remains is that those things reflect only one facet of Korea.  The glamorous, happy image K-entertainers portray tend to overshadow much of the troubles that continue to plague the Koreas.  The Korean War continues to this day (no peace treaty was ever signed), families are still separated by the DMZ, and no matter how far South Korea goes economically, North Korea remains its unpredictable brother that holds it back.

Anyway, I won't get into my political opinions right now but I hope that this encourages and challenges the people who say they "love" Korean culture to start looking beyond the glossy images of Korea's singers, dancers, and actors and see Korea as it truly is, warts and all - and to love Korea even so.

***And just to clarify, I'm not trying to single anyone out for not being all "into" global politics or something ^_^ I was just in a philosophical mood after seeing my brother's friends gawking over Suju & SNSD while having no idea what else is going on in Korea :\  I'm sorry if there was any misunderstandings ^^~ *sigh* I need to watch myself when I get up on my soapbox ><

* * * * *

Hi, everyone~
I'm sorry I have been really slow on reviews lately but my skin really needs a break (for reasons I'll explain below) so unfortunately, here's another filler post :(  For people waiting for the concealer video, I still have to film the last bit and with my face being so friggin' annoying I haven't been able to do it yet >_>

Anyway, remember my post about what I thought was a pineapple allergy?  Well, the good news is that I'm not allergic to pineapples (or the Skinfood Pineapple Peel in general) :) The bad news is that I'm allergic - for sure - to this:

I could choke on the amount of irony written on this jar....

I got a sample of this with my UD BoSIII palette but forgot about it till now.  I remembered that I had used this for the first time on pineapple day but honestly, this moisturizer is known for it's gentleness that it didn't even occur to me it could be this.   Basically,  by two days ago my skin had pretty much returned to its old self.  I figured I could finally start moisturizing again (I always cut off lotions/makeup when my face is having a flare-up) and after washing my face with Theragenics Tomato Carrot Soap (not allergic to this b/c I've used even when my face was recovering) and used a Skinfood Pumpkin Gel Mask (I also used this every night while my face was recovering and it helped it heal, so not allergic to this either), I put on the Philosophy Hope In a Jar.  My skin felt tingly (I thought in a good way) and I went to sleep.

When I woke up in Monday, I had broken out in hives again.  Today my face is swollen and much worse so than last time; the itchiness has also intensified.  Unfortunately, this is not surprising since it's said allergic reactions get worse each time your exposed to the allergen again.   It'll take a good 3-4 days (perhaps longer this time) before it goes away.
Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Glyceryl Stearate, Peg-100 Stearate, Octyldodecanol, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Lecithin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Arachidyl Propionate, Ethyl Linoleate, Ethyl Linolenate, Citric Acid, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Salvia Officinialis (Sage) Oil, Triethanolamine, Limonene, Linalool, Diazolidinyl Urea, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.
I googled "Hope In A Jar allergy" and the only page I came across fingered lavender as the culprit.  I admit I've never put lavender on my face but I'm wary of jumping to conclusions because I have put on the Bath & Body Works Lavender Chamomile Sleep Lotion many times on my body with no problems (well, a year or so ago).  Either the lavender concentration in the lotion isn't high enough or I've developed a lavender allergy or my reaction isn't to lavender.   Bottom line: I doubt I'll ever figure out what I'm allergic to specifically but no more Hope In A Jar for me.  This is really disappointing to me as I wanted to try Philosophy's Microdermabrasion set and now I'm wary of it.

So that's where I am right now and why I haven't been in the mood to test out and review any makeup :(  Ugh....not a good way to start Thanksgiving break...

Now on to the happy stuff :D~~~

My weekend got a really nice start when I found out suki pooki tagged me for this award ^_^   I was especially moved because even though this is a beauty blog, I like to write about a lot of other things as well and I worry if that's really a good thing ^^  So thank you suki pooki!

And on to the last sweet thing~

Mini macarons!  I was talking to suki pooki about these ^_^  I got this from Wegmans and it's the first time I've tried these.  I don't remember how much they were and though I remember thinking they were a little pricey, I totally don't regret buying them because they're just so doggone cute!
A macaron.... is meringue-based: made from a mixture of egg whites, almond flour, and both granulated and confectionery sugar. The confectionery is characterized by its smooth, domed top, ruffled circumference (referred to as the "foot"), flat base, mildly moist and easily melted into mouths. Connoisseurs prize a delicate, egg shell-like crust that yields to a moist and airy interior. The macaron is commonly filled with a buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two macaron cookies.
I'm not a good judge of these since it's the first time I tried them but they were indeed delicately crisp on the outside with a moist, fluffy interior.  They were delectably sweet and I finished these in one sitting ^^

Pistachio - I don't like pistachios normally but it tasted very good as a macaron ^^ I actually think this was my favorite :D

Lemon - tastes just like a lemon!  The lemon ones seemed more 'moist' than the others for some reason but it still tasted very good, if a bit on the sweet side rather than tangy side.

Chocolate - SO SWEET even to me.  It was like a bite of triple layer chocolate cake!  But they were good, oh so good. Very moist and rich!

Strawberry - how can you go wrong with strawberry ^_^?  It was very good but the flavor a little artificial for my taste.  Not "subtle" just in your face strawberry (flavoring).

Vanilla Bean - very sweet, though not as much as the Chocolate one. It tasted very "natural" if that makes any sense - it was good :D

Lisa also introduced to this friggin amazing macaron shop on Etsy, Sparkles Kitchen.  Omg they look so good O_O and so many unusual flavors!

TAG: My Perfect Imperfections

I saw this on Siwing's blog and decided to jump on the bandwagon ^^  It'll be a nice way to end the day *yawn* Basically (copied from Siwing)...

We all have little "imperfections" or things that we don't like ourselves. Often times, we are the only ones who are really self-conscious about it, but those "imperfections" are what makes us unique.

There's this tag going around on Youtube, started by AndreasChoice. It's such a fun tag, and since I don't make Youtube videos, I thought it'd be interesting to bring it to blogger ^_^

Tag: List 3 imperfections that make you "you", and then list 3 things that you like about yourself.

3 Imperfections
1.) My two front teeth :( On some days I think they're unique but I mostly dislike them because *ahem* I can't close my mouth all the way unless I "try."  Basically, my natural mouth position is slightly open :\ which I think makes me look a little dumb.  Also b/c of this I've been told I look like a rabbit or chipmunk or (I quote) "a deranged squirrel" countless times *sigh*

2.) My hair...it's lovely having long, lush hair but it is so goddamn uncooperative x_X  It's usually in a bun because having it down means hours of straightening and conditioning.  I'm naturally curly-haired and made the mistake of perming it and now it's basically a jungle.  Plus I shed a lot >< It's amazing I'm not bald yet.

3.) My supa wide shoulders.  I used have shoulders 16.5in wide while I was still a competitive swimmer.  Thankfully, they've shrunk to a reasonable 14in now *whew* But I think what really annoys me is not the fact that I have just wide shoulders but that I also have a flat bust >_> so I'm constantly vacillating between wanting to make my upper body seem bigger or smaller.

3 Loves
1.) My legs ^^ I dunno if it's because I'm so disgruntled over my upper body but I'm overly fond of my legs xD  That probably explains my obsession with booty shorts and high heels~  They aren't particularly long but I think they are quite shapely....well, I think they are pretty teehee ^^;;

I get my legs from my mom and dad who both (and I'm not exaggerating) have stellar legs to this day (and they're both 50+).  Actually, it's a little troubling to admit but they both have not just good legs but fantastic legs.   My dad's legs are long, perfectly shaped, completely hairless and lean.   Same with my mom, she may be 50+ but she's got perfectly smooth, milky white, hairless long legs that you'd think only exist on TV.   They BOTH have better legs than me actually b/c I'm *ahem* hairier and have little scars everywhere (maybe b/c all the full body shaves I did whilst swimming?).

2.) My plumpy, pink lips.  Another gift from my dad ^^ Sometimes I feel like they overwhelm my face a little but I definitely think it's one of my defining traits :D  I look a lot like my dad actually, some of my dad's friends who have never met me recognize me at the supermarket sometimes because I just "look so much like my dad."  My brother has even better lips - legit Angelina Jolie lips...it's friggin hilarious xD

3.) My face shape.  I dunno, I never thought much about it till HS but after I lost all my baby fat, the thing my relatives (my harshest critics, I swear....there is no stopping an ahjumma, a 40+ lady, when she has something to say) comment on the most (after my buck teeth xD) is how tiny and oval my face is.  ahah that's cuz I hide my football field of a forehead behind bangs yo ;)  but yes, it's nice to hear a compliment from an ancient aunt who likes to count the number of pimples on my face while I'm eating.

I'd love to read everyone's responses to this tag so if you did one, please leave a link to your blog post or just leave your 3 imperfections & 3 loves in a comment below :D

Ending the Weekend: FOTD, Sales, Award, Squirrels~

The weather today was just gorgeous; here's a view of my backyard~

And what is this huddled in thou branches?

Squirrel!!!!!!! Isn't it just so friggin cute ^_^?! but it looks so cold >0<  It was warm out though, so no worries ;)  It was just sitting like that for at least five minutes.  I wonder what it was thinking~?

Bibi also was nice to give me this award, thanks Bibi!

I believe it says "Because your blog is pretty!" in Spanish  eheh it must be all the peas and hearts I stuck everywhere ^^  And to pass on the love....here is a small sampling (five) of eye candy blogs:

I think the strawberries in the bg are just so cute....plus I dig her blog layout in general.
It's just so clean, navigable and full of personality.  Even though princess-y stuff
isn't my usual cup of tea, her design just really charms me.

So soft and pretty~ It's very simple but so much attention to detail went
into designing the layout from the adorable little smilie icons to the delicate font.

eheh more pink ^_^ Love everything from the ruffles on the page border to the
little sparkles that follow your arrow.  By far one of the cutest webdesigns eva~

Definitely one of the more visually memorable beauty blogs I've seen.  The site has a
darker color palette than most beauty blogs and it stands out fo' sho.
I like the width of the blog and the little teddy bears at the corners of her widgets ^^ Also I just
dig the convenient features like the rolling top entry and has Korean subs in her videos.

Sales
I came across some really good sales (non-R&R for once) this weekend.

I LOVE the candles at B&BW, the Slatkin & Co. candles smell so strong (in a good way) and burn cleanly (aka it doesn't leave that ashy ring in the glass jar).  My all time favorite is Slatkin Autumn Apple - a delicious scent of Red Delicious apples without being cloying or too sweet.  I actually have never burned this candle because my room is scented with apples WITHOUT even needing to light it.  I've owned this candle for 3-4 years (crazy right?!) and it has been with me all through college fighting stinky college dorm smells....and it still smells as good and strong as if I bought it yesterday~ I also own the room spray, which I bought 2-3 years ago and it still hasn't run out. I highly recommend this scent and brand, so give it a whiff when you go to B&BW ^_^

2.) A couple Sephora coupon codes....the first one really caught my eye (for obvious reasons :D)...so many goodies!  I'm so tempted to buy something just to use the code...god, I'm such a sucker for sales ><  These two were the most tempting codes to me but here are a couple more.

Lastly, here's a FOTD/EOTD I did today.  I was shooting some pics with the earrings I won from Julu Jewelry's giveaway (thanks Stephanie!) but my earrings didn't show in this one so I figured I'd use it for a rare FOTD/EOTD since this really is an all-time favorite look of mine.  Also check out Steph's jewelry shop, she has some lovely pieces; one of my favorites being her Mulan-inspired earrings, which are currently on my Lust List :D

As usual I forgot to wear non-SPF foundation when taking pics *sigh* my face is about 10 shades lighter than the rest of my body :P  Anyway, even though this uses a bright blue liner, this is seriously one of the looks I do the most often  It's very easy, just black eyeliner on top, white pencil at the inner corner, then blue pencil (Urban Decay Flipside) at the outer corner.  I don't have mascara on (another step I usually forgo in real life xD).  I think the trick of wearing bright colors on your waterline is particularly great for people with monolids/hidden folds; it's a good way to add a pop of color to your eye without going crazy with colors all around your eye.   Lastly, I just love pairing blue shadows with my gray lens, it just adds a lovely, misty sheen to my eyes - "puppy eyes" ^_^

Products used:
Face:
Skinfood Mushroom BBcream SPF 30 PA++ in Shade 1
Paul & Joe Finishing Powder in Natural
Lioele Silky Highlighter BB Touch
TonyMoly BB Pact Party Lover in Shade 2
R&R Contrived Pressed Blush in Foreplay (this looks quite 'tan' in the pan but turns a peachy coral on my face)

Eyes:
G&G GBT Grey circle lens
Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Flipside (blue)
Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Yeyo (white)
Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in  Zero (black)
Koji Dolly Wink Liquid Liner in Black

Lips:
NYX Round Lipstick in Pumpkin Pie
NYX Round Lipstick in Indian Pink

Ok, I forgot who said (Steph, I think?) Pumpkin Pie would grow on me but they were so right!  My favorite lip combo right now is Pumpkin Pie + Indian Pink.  Basically, I liked Indian Pink as a color but I didn't like the frosty finish.  So what I did was put on one coat of Indian Pink then lightly pressed my lips down on a tissue.  Then I put on one swipe of Pumpkin Pie (has a cream finish)....LOVE :D!   I got plushy pink lips with a creamy finish.  Since Pumpkin Pie tones down the frostiness of Indian Pink, it makes both colors infinitely more flattering on me because I feel that I look better in creamy lip finishes.

Today I wore it for kicks and maybe it was gorgeous sunlight or something but this lip combo just brought a whole new dimension to my face.   After this "discovery," I went back and put on Pumpkin Pie alone and it wasn't half as bad as I thought.  I think why I initially thought this color was so unflattering on me was because I was looking at myself in the mirror in a fairly dim bathroom, hmm...

Yep...that's it for today.  Have a great Monday everyone and don't forget it's Daylight Savings :)!

Award + Randomness

Siwing really made my day when I woke to find this earlier this week:

:DDD!!! Thank you, Siwing!

The Rules:
1. Thank the blogger who gave me the award.
2. Sum up your blogging philosophy, motivation, and experience using five words.
3. Pass this on to 10 other bloggers that you feel have a substance in their blogs.

I'm really, really touched that Siwing thought of me....I'm such a small fish in the blogging world so it was just wonderful to know this little burp of a blog is enjoyable to read ^_^ Which leads to why I even blog in the first place (in 5 words): Blogs bring people together everyday.  Even though there are limits to how well you can really know a person online, when I see FOTDs, OOTDs, personal posts and reviews, I feel that I am seeing a part of them.  It may not be all of who they are but it is still facet of someone out there in the world you would've never known existed before you came across their blog.

This is just a small slice of the few blogs I have frequented for quite some time now  :} If you're not here it's probably because I've just started reading your blog within the last few weeks or I think you've already been tagged in this award ^_^ Anyway, I hope you find these as enjoyable as I do.
Queen of the cupcake pops. She was on Martha Stewart ^_^
Takes sinfully adorable pictures.

I really like her makeup style ^^;; Fresh and clean looking....

Love her eyeshadow swatches!

kpop + high fashion + dramas + scathing commentary + awesome photos

One word: shoes. I dunno, I really like her taste in shoes.

Her review on Koji Eye curlers just blew me away.

SO CUTE. The adventures of two baby teeth :)

Love her makeup picks and she just has one the prettiest layouts ever.

Her FOTDs are practical and pretty :)

#10 - everyone on my blogroll ^_^

And some random weekend weirdness...

My new favorite socks.
Of the many passing fancies I have had...this has been THE longest lasting hobby for me....

Living room of my dollhouse.
Yes, dollhouses.  Dollhouses fascinate me - the REAL ones made to look like true to life miniatures, not the fake Barbie-house kinds.  I think my favorite part of dollhouse building is wallpapering, make staircases, and gluing on crown and base moldings.  I have one dollhouse, it's a 7 room one that my dad made for me in...4th grade?  It sounds big but it's really quite small ^^ It only has windows on one side ;)  I just played around with it through elementary school but in high school I took to it seriously and started researching on lighting and flooring techniques.  Sadly, dollhousing (is that a word?) is rather an expensive hobby :P so I work on one room at a time...now 10 years later I've finished 6 rooms ^_^. Still have 2 more rooms to go, the attic rooms.  It's been a labor of love for me and all the pillows and curtains were made by my mom so needless to say, my dollhouse is one of my most prized possessions.... eheh maybe I'll post the finished house one day :)

These little figurines have been sitting by my bed for years.  They have dust-hair ^^;;
And last but not least....

Bakerella's Hi Hat Cupcakes
More Bakerella goodness. I love how she takes cross-sections of her baked pieces of heaven. It must be my lab rat side coming out ^^  While I imagine there are a few people out there barfing over the ridiculous amount of icing on this thing....to me that thing is heaven on earth *YUMMMMM*

On that note, what interesting (and little known) hobbies do you guys have and who are your favorite food bloggers?  (And please leave a link to your fav food bloggers, I'm always on the hunt for more food porn).

Have a good weekend peeps!
